VIDEO: Fire scene immediately after rescue of three people trapped in an apartment unit fire on Hawthorne Circle, Mount Prospect.

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:51 a.m. Christmas morning to a report of an apartment fire with three people trapped in an apartment unit at 303 Hawthorne Circle in Mount Prospect. Police and firefighters received a report that three people were trapped behind a hot door with an apartment unit filling up with smoke.

Police were first on the scene and updated firefighters after gathering information about which units were occupied, which units were unaccounted for, and which units had evacuated.

Des Plaines firefighters and Elk Grove Township firefighters took on rescue from the west side of the apartment. Des Plaines raised their tower ladder to the third floor apartment, where the residents were reported trapped. Ground ladders were also raised to windows on the west side of the apartment building.

A young girl was carried to a Mount Prospect Fire Department rescue-ambulance by an Elk Grove Township firefighter, but she did not appear to be seriously hurt. She was given oxygen, apparently for smoke inhalation precaution, but no people were immediately transported to a hospital.

Mount Prospect firefighters took on fire attack from the east side entrance to the building. Arlington Heights firefighters also assisted Mount Prospect firefighters at the scene.

The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, but the apartment unit was rendered uninhabitable.
