How did the northwest suburbs traffic fare for the first measurable snowfall in Chicagoland? A high number of property damage crashes were reported Friday morning between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. A few personal injury crashes also occurred, but no injuries appear to be serious. Today’s first snowfall is the fifth latest snowfall in Chicagoland — tied with December 9, 1948. The average first snowfall is November 21. The record latest first snowfall in Chicagoland is December 16, 1965 when 0.3 inch was measured.

9:00 a.m. — Arlington Heights: Miner and Arlington Heights Road, police discovered a property damage crash.

8:49 a.m. — Elk Grove Village: Thorton at York Road and Devon property damage crash involving a snow plow and Mercedes.

8:47 a.m. — Arlington Heights: 500 block of South Dwyer property damage crash involving a red Ford Explorer and a maroon Lexus.

8:42 a.m. — Elk Grove Village: Higgins and Arlington Heights Road property damage crash involving a black Saturn and a taxi. A second property damage crash on Higgins west of Arlington Heights Road found by police.


8:39 a.m. — Schaumburg: Northbound Meacham at Schaumburg Road property damage crash involving a blue Toyota Sienna and a white Jeep with one of the vehicles facing northbound in the southbound lanes.

8:34 a.m. — Elk Grove Village: 700 block of Easton Lane property damage crash involving a tan GMC pickup truck and an Acura.

8:22 a.m. — Wheeling/Buffalo Grove: Eastbound Lake Cook Road east of Milwaukee Avenue personal injury crash involving a silver Nissan and a Ford F-150.

8:11 a.m. — Arlington Heights: Dundee and Ridge property damage crash involving a silver Toyota Corolla and a silver Infiniti.

8:00 a.m. — Buffalo Grove: 1287 North Barclay property damage crash involving a white Toyota Camry and a black Toyota Avalon.

7:58 a.m. — Arlington Heights: Palatine and Arlington Heights Road property damage crash.

7:56 a.m. — Rolling Meadows: Algonquin and Barker property damage crash — no police report.

7:50 a.m. — Palatine/Barrington: Glencraft and Dundee property damage crash.

7:45 a.m. Palatine: Quentin and Euclid Avenue, three-vehicle personal injury crash involving a Volvo.

7:38 a.m. Buffalo Grove: 355 West Dundee, property damage three-car crash involving a black Honda Civic, gray Honda Civic and a silver Lexus.

7:36 a.m. — Arlington Heights: Hintz and Windsor, property damage crash involving a red Ford Ranger pickup truck and a white Nissan Sentra. Second crash also reported at the location — Hintz and Beverly/Elm. Area reported to be icy — special assignment plows for de-icing/salting requested.

7:25 a.m. — Schaumburg: Golf and Windsong property damage crash.

6:59 a.m. — Buffalo Grove: Dundee Road east of Weidner, Dundee and Crofton, Dundee and Carriageway … a white construction van with ladders and a Ford Fusion among multiple vehicles in a crash on Dundee Road described as a skating rink. Two crashes occurred while police were managing the first crash. Area reported to be icy — special assignment plows for de-icing/salting requested.

6:19 a.m. — Palatine: Brockway and Wood Street crash with one woman injured.

5:36 a.m. — Mount Prospect: Elmhurst and Euclid hit-and-run crash property damage. Offending vehicle described as a dark-colored Ford Explorer or Ford Expedition. Offending vehicle last seen driving into Social Security building.

5:25 a.m. — Hoffman Estates: Golf and Walnut hit-and-run crash with subjects fleeing on foot southbound on Walnut. Three in custody, one described as a male/black wearing a gray jacket. Schaumburg police assisted Hoffman Estates police.

4:53 a.m. — Palatine: Dundee and Park personal injury one-vehicle crash, Ford pickup rolled into a ditch. Once victim transported to the hospital.
