Second Report of Suspicious Man Following Jogger(s); Police Contact with Suspect

VIDEO: Police investigate, question and search a man who matched the description of a suspicious man who was reported following joggers near Thomas Street and Ridge Avenue.

Arlington Heights police responded a second time to the area of Thomas Street and Ridge Avenue after a lone jogger reported about 6:57 a.m. Friday that a male was following the jogger “for awhile” in the area of the 1400 block of North Walnut Avenue. The suspect was described in his 20’s, wearing a white hoodie and riding a bike, was last seen eastbound on Oakton Street.


Police caught up with a suspect at the intersection of Thomas Street and Ridge Avenue. Police investigated the suspect and spoke with the suspect, and likely gave him a warning about suspicious activity related to following joggers. The suspect was checked for possession of weapons and other items, and checked for warrants. He was then released and walked his bike northbound on Ridge Avenue.

In the first incident Arlington Heights police responded about 6:16 a.m. Friday to a report of a suspicious man in the area of Thomas Street and Ridge Avenue. Police received a report that a man rode up behind four friends that were jogging. The man was last seen hiding behind a tree on the north side of Thomas Street.

The subject was described as a male/white in his 30’s, 6’0″ slim build, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and glasses. The subject possibly had blood on his face and appeared intoxicated according to a called-in report.
