Woman, Child Killed in Gladewater in One of a Multitude of Wind-driven Texas Fires

Tropical storm Lee winds fanned flames in a fatal wildfire in Texas — onw of .

Six homes were toppled within minutes, including a trailer where a 20-year-old woman and her 18-month-old daughter were killed by the fire in Gladewater, Texas. A man inside the trailer survived with minor burns.

The fires have been fanned by high winds caused by Tropical Storm Lee. Thousands of acres were up in flames in eastern and central parts Texas.


Gladewater, Texas is located about 120 miles east of Dallas and 60 miles west of Shreveport, La.

Bastrop County: The Circle D, K.C. Estates, Pine Forest, Colovista and Tahitian Village subdivision have been evacuated.

An estimated 424 homes may have been destroyed so far from ongoing fires, 300 from the Bastrop County fire alone.

200 homes evacuated due to a brush fire in the Austin suburb of Pflugerville.

A dozen homes were under mandatory evacuation oeswe on Monday near Tyler in east Texas.

The Texas Forest Service has responded as of Sunday to 63 new fires burning on more than 32,000 acres. Twenty-two of the fire are described as large fires.
