District 214’s aquatic sports leader Rob Lindgren died Sunday, July 15, 2018 after battling cancer since November 2017. Most recently Lindgren served as head coach of Wheeling High School’ girls swimming team. Lindgren also served as the Hersey High School boys athletic director until 2009, department head at Buffalo Grove High School, and girls swimming coach at Hersey High School.
Lindgren was also Hersey High School’s first girls water polo coach. He served on the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) advisory committee for girls water polo, and was also an official for the IHSA.
Lindgren also served as director of the WHAM Aquatics swim team for District 214 athletes. WHAM Aquatics Competitive Swim Team offers year round programs for swimmers ages 8 years – high school. Swimmers train and compete at age appropriate levels as they prepare for success in high school programs, according to District 214.
A funeral announcement was not available Wednesday morning.
