Suspicious Pipe Bomb? Half-Stick of Dynamite? Discovered in Flowers, Bushes in Naperville

Naperville police and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded Wednesday to a report of a possible pipe bomb in the 3500 block of Fairmont Avenue in Naperville’s Heatherstone area.

Explosive experts with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad picked up a half stick of dynamite and destroyed it in a controlled detonation in a nearby field. No word on any arrests or investigation or exactly what time police first responded to the incident.


The resident at the home had been away from his residence since July 25. The suspicious device was a yellow duct-taped package with a wick protrusion. As of August 4, 2011, the latest news from City of Naperville police have no media release regarding the incident on the official Naperville website or the “Current Public Safety News” page from the City of Naperville.
