Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday to an outside gas main break in the 2400 block of Greenleaf near Randall Metals. Evacuations are in progress in the area. Des Plaines firefighter/paramedics and Elk Grove Township firefighter/paramedics are assisting Elk Grove Village firefighters. Firefighters are in a rotation while standing by with a hose line while wearing breathing apparatus near the leak.

Apparently a crew working on a water main hit an unmarked gas line. Nicor is on the scene. Nicor will have an extensive dig that will involve a five-to-six hour operation — expect completion of repair around 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
