Fatal Crash on Route 72 Near Hampshire Kills Jerry Crosby

Kane County Sheriff’s police responded about 9:00 p.m. Saturday to a crash on Route 72 near Hampshire. Jerry Crosby, 20, of Rockford, was transported to Provena St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead. He was one of three passengers in an eastbound Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Lawan Allen, who attempted to pass a semi-trailer truck that was also eastbound. The Grand Prix collided with a westbound vehicle.

The driver, Lawan Allen, 20, of Overdene Lane, Rockford was cited for improper passing, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage after the Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving collided with another car on Route 72 in unincorporated Kane County near Hampshire.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was not injured and was not cited. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash.
