David Campbell, Identified As Victim of Strangulation Homicide After Body Found in Penny Road Pond

The body of a man found Wednesday in Penny Road Pond at Penny Road Forest Preserve near Penny Road and Old Sutton Road, South Barrington has been identified as David Campbell of Waukegan, a Cook County Forest Preserve District spokesman said Thursday.

South Barrington police found the body lying half-in, half-out of the Penny Road Pond at Old Sutton Road and Penny Road near South Barrington after a citizen reported finding the body about 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. The body was found unclothed.


Campbell’s death was classified a homicide after an autopsy performed Thursday ruled the man in his late 20’s died of strangulation, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

The time and location of the man’s death has yet to be determined.

Penny Road Pond is located about one-half mile west of Penny Road Pub and Klehm’s plants nursery near Penny Road and Old Sutton Road. The pond is also located less than two miles north of Sears Centre Arena, part of the Spring Creek Valley Forest Preserve (Cook County).
