Record High Air Temperature for Chicago for May 10: 90°F; Breaks Record from 1896

May 10, 2011 has broken a record for high temperature for the date in Chicago at the official National Weather Service weather station at O’Hare International Airport. At 3:04 p.m. the air temperature at O’Hare International Airport was 89°F — tying the record. At 3:51 p.m the air temperature was 90°F — breaking the record set in 1896.


The latest day in the 80’s was April 10, 2011 when the high reached 83°F.

The high in Kenosha, Wisconsin only reached 72.0°F at 1:53 p.m.

At 4:00 p.m. a warm front extended from North Carolina to North Dakota with high pressure over northern Virginia and low pressure to the west of Chicagoland. A ridge exists in the midwest, which is an elongated area of relatively high pressure. The jet stream is well north of Illinois — in Canada.
