VIDEO: ATF Destroys Remaining Fireworks That Killed 5 and Injured 1 in Waikele, Hawaii

Fireworks left at the Honolulu site of a deadly blast April 8 were removed and destroyed by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Five people were killed when seized explosives ignited in an underground bunker.

Five men were killed and one was injured on Friday, April 8, 2011 when fireworks exploded at a storage unit in Waikele, Hawaii. All of the men were employees of Donaldson Enterprises, which had a contract with a federal agency to destroy illegal fireworks, including large aerial fireworks.


The explosions started at 9 a.m. local time in one of the storage units, which houses confiscated fireworks, before causing a number of explosions across the facility throughout the day,

Four men were killed instantly and one man died after being transported to a local hospital. Two men were recovered immediately, but two were inaccessible inside underground storage bunkers.

Victims are identified as
Bryan Cabalce, 25, who died of thermal burns.

Robert Kevin Freeman, 24, who died of thermal burns and asphyxia.

Justin Kelii, 29, who died from carbon monoxide inhalation.

Neil Sprankle, 24, who died from carbon monoxide inhalation.

Robert Leahey, 50, who died from thermal burns and carbon monoxide inhalation.
