The Cardinal thinks Jesse Jackson, Jr. wants to ban Apple iPads. From his tone Apple is a very bad company.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), who admits to owning an iPad, blames the Apple Inc. product for “eliminating thousands of American jobs.”

Jesse Jackson, Jr. laments about how the Apple iPad is so convenient for downloading books, that there is a travesty because Apple has caused jobs to be lost in the publishing industry.

“A few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happen to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad and download your book, download your newspaper, download your magazine. Chicago State University in my congressional district, freshman class, they’re not being given textbooks any longer. They’re all being given iPads as they enter school,” Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL, Chicago) said on the House floor Friday afternoon.

“What becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs?” asks Jesse Jackson, Jr.

[Maybe they can get different jobs created by the new publishing industry.

Think of the gas that will be saved because people don’t have to drive to the library or the book store to read a book. Think of the paper and trees that will be saved.

How about all the Americans that have gotten rich by purchasing stock in Apple, Inc.]

Back to Jackson’s rationale …

So the Chinese get to take advantage of our first amendment value. That is, to provide freedom of speech through the iPad to the American people. But there is no protection for jobs here in America to ensure that the American people are being put to work.

— Jesse Jackson

You want to put people to work? Ban the iPad? No, cut back on taxes and the bureaucratic mess of rules to manufacturing companies, and distribution rules, etc. And cut down the cost of health care, so it doesn’t cost so much to provide benefits for employees in America.

Funny how Jackson picks on one of the most successful companies in America. A company that some have called the most successful company in the world recently.

Of course, he admits he bought an Apple iPad at the beginning of the discourse.

The only Jobs that the iPad is killing would be the one that is dying of laughter in Cupertino.
