Off-Duty Schaumburg Police Officer Involved in Suspected DUI Car vs Tree Crash

Schaumburg police responded about 1:35 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 to a crash on westbound Schaumburg Road east of Hilltop Drive. The crash involved a black Cadillac, which struck a tree on the north parkway. The driver was not injured and refused medical treatment at the scene. There were no other persons inside the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to Schaumburg Police Department.

Schaumburg police identified the driver as, John Raftery, an off-duty Schaumburg police officer. Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department responded to conduct the traffic accident investigation. John Raftery was placed under arrest, suspected of DUI. Schaumburg Police Officer, John Raftery, is a 28 year veteran of the police department. Effective Friday, June 22, 2018, Officer John Raftery has resigned from the Schaumburg Police Department, according to the department.
