Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 8:20 PM Monday to a condominium fire at Chardonnay On The Lake, 835 Leicester Road.
Firefighter/paramedics responded to an automatic fire alarm and discovered a fire on the third floor. At least one woman was caught in heavy smoke and was able to get to a stairwell. Firefighters found a woman in a stairwell in the heavy smoke, and rescued her from the four-story condominium building.
The fire was extinguished by 8:30 p.m. Monday. Firefighters were searching for additional victims and were ventilating the building to clear the heavy smoke.
Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, and Rosemont firefighters assisted Elk Grove Village Fire Department. Arlington Heights Fire Department sent a rescue-ambulance to stand-by in an Elk Grove Village fire station.
