SPRINGFIELD, IL – A bipartisan plan to fix the state’s broken Medicaid system will protect taxpayers and patients, according to State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine).
“We have partially fixed some of the state’s fiscal nightmare without raising taxes,” Murphy said. “Illinois residents will now be the only citizens who can benefit from our programs”
The key components of House Bill 5420, the Medicaid reform bill, include;
· Managed Care of at least 50 percent of Medicaid clients; and
· 2 year moratorium on the expansion of AllKids, Medicaid and ICHIP.
· Long-Term Care Rebalancing, moving from institutionalizing patients to community-based settings;
· Information sharing between the Department of Revenue and the Secretary of State to provide residency information for new and current applicants;
· Caps AllKids income eligibility;
· Eligibility verification to ensure only Illinois residents receive benefits;
Murphy noted that these historic reforms have been advocated for several years by the Senate Republican Caucus.
“I applaud the legislative majorities for beginning to heed the warning and make critical budget-saving measures. Our constituents are asking for real solutions to solve the state’s fiscal crisis and hopefully more solutions like this one are on the way,” Murphy concluded.
