Buffalo Grove police received a report of an attempted ruse/burglary scam that occurred about 1:15pm on Saturday, January 8 in the 200 Block of Stonegate Road in Buffalo Grove.

A seventy-eight year-old resident reported a male/Hispanic subject came to his door claiming he would be doing some work near the resident’s back yard and that he wanted to show the resident where the work would be performed. The resident became suspicious when the subject wanted to remain in the kitchen when the resident asked him to go back to the door. The resident then stated that he would be calling the police at which time the subject ran out of the house.

Additionally, two male Hispanic subjects came running down the stairs from the second floor of the home. Nothing has been found missing at this time. The subjects drove off — possibly in a 2005 burgundy or maroon-colored mini-van. Buffalo Grove police alerted area police departments via an Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network (ISPERN) message.

The first male/Hispanic was described as about 6’1″ heavyset, wearing a stocking cap and a gray jacket. The vehicle was last seen heading southbound on Stonegate toward the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Dundee Road.
