Chase, crash, manhunt using a helicopter, drone, and K-9 units in Arlington Heights near Euclid Ave and Wilshire Lane, Arlington Heights.

Arlington Heights police responded about 9:00 PM Friday May 4, 2018 to assist Mount Prospect police with a chase and manhunt near Euclid Avenue and Wilshire Lane Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that a police pursuit ended in a crash at westbound Euclid Avenue and Wilshire Lane.

Official word was not available from police late Friday, but by putting some facts together — some from unnamed sources and witnesses that want to remain anonymous — there is some reasonable speculation about what happened.

Apparently Mount Prospect police were possibly working with a task force, and possibly tailing a ruse burglary crew. This is not confirmed by Mount Prospect police, so consider this report as possibly incorrect information or information that is not entirely accurate.

A chase may have begun in Mount Prospect, which continued into Arlington Heights on westbound Euclid Avenue from Rand Road. Witnesses reported Skokie, Northbrook, and Mount Prospect police on the scene immediately after the crash, which occurred on Euclid Avenue between Wilshire Lane and Drury Lane. An older model gray or tan Toyota Camry crashed into a tree, resulting in moderate to severe front-end damage. Later Friday night and early Saturday morning, Mount Prospect police appeared to be the police agency that was collecting evidence at the scene of the car crash.

Also immediately after the crash, at least two suspects bailed out from the car and apparently ran north from the scene. A resident that lives near the scene saw a man climb out from hiding under a pickup truck that was parked on a driveway. The man told the resident that he was just involved in a crash, as he walked past, and headed eastbound on the sidewalk along Euclid Avenue. The man was described as being about 35, and having a large build, balding, and wearing cargo pants, and an unknown baggy type shirt. The resident told police, who quickly responded, and apprehended the male suspect near Euclid Avenue and Gibbons Avenue. The man reported an injury, and Arlington Heights firefighter/paramedics were dispatched to the scene about 10:01 p.m.. The man was apparently transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

Police continued to search for at least one additional suspect, and set up a large perimeter — as far north as Oakton Street near St Viator. There was a witness report that St Viator was on lockdown, but the school’s social media accounts did not mention a lockdown. The description of the second suspect was unknown.

Chicago police responded with a drone that was apparently working to detect the heat image for a possible hiding suspect in backyards near the scene. The drone was above the trees. A helicopter was also involved in the search, making several circular passes from about Euclid Avenue to Oakton Street east of Dryden. The helicopter departed the scene about 11:15 p.m.

It appeared that an article of clothing or some other similar material was left in a side yard between the second house and third house north of Euclid Avenue on the east side of Drury Lane. An Arlington Heights police unit was assigned to secure that scene, where the material was down on the lawn at the side yard, until an investigator picked it up.

Police may have located the second suspect by interviewing the apprehended suspect, or by using cellular phone information obtained when a cell phone, apparently belonging to one of the suspects rang at the crash scene.

Witnesses in the neighborhood reported no reverse 9-1-1 alerted their phones about any incidents Friday night.

This is a developing report.
