WGN-TV Gaynor Hall Video Report: Boy had been terrorizing neighborhood for months.

Chicago police responded about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday to the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue after a 68-year-old woman shot at two youths who were throwing bricks at her. One of the youths — a 12-year-old male — was wounded in the shoulder.

The incident started when the woman returned home from grocery shopping and discovered all the windows to her house were broken. Next, she saw two youths fleeing her property. The woman called police, and before police arrived, the youths returned and started throwing bricks at her and yelling obscenities at her. The woman pulled out a gun that used to be owned by a relative, and fire at the youths. A 12-year-old boy was hit, while a 13-year-old youth ran away with injuries.

The injured youth was transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Both boys have been charged Wednesday morning with aggravated assault of a person over the age of 60 and were released to their parents.

The woman held for questioning overnight was also released Wednesday morning, and is not being charged with any crime by reason of self-defense.
