California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Orange County Fire Authority (OFCA) responded about 10:53 p.m. Thursday April 12, 2018 to a rollover crash northbound on the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) between La Paz Road and Alicia Parkway near Mission Viejo. A photojournalist from OnScene.TV reported that a total of four patients were transported from the scene with injuries ranging from moderate to critical. Orange County Register reported that actor/comedian was not injured, but was among the passengers transported by ambulance. OnScene.TV also reported that a 28 year-old female passenger was critically injured in the crash when she was ejected. One other passenger was in the rolled vehicle when firefighter/paramedics arrived, and the call was initially upgraded to a “Cutter” — the term used on radio for an extrication crash in Orange County. Soon firefighter/paramedics realized the passenger was not trapped, but needed assistance to exit the crashed vehicle.

According to the CHP accident report, Ferrell’s vehicle was struck when another car veered into lane that where Ferrel’s SUV limo was traveling. Ferrell’s SUV then struck the center divider median and overturned. A witness reported that a woman in the SUV with Ferrell was more seriously injured than Ferrell, who was using his cell phone as he was loaded into an ambulance.

Ferrell’s longtime personal driver, Mark Thompson, and another passenger, identified as Carolina Barlow, remain hospitalized in stable condition, according to United Talent Agency.
