Subway Sandwich Shop Rises to the Occasion for Workers at World Trade Center

Associated Press reporter Ted Shaffrey tours a Subway sandwich restaurant that is continually hoisted to the top of the World Trade Center construction site as workers build new floors.

The restaurant is in a cargo container at the top of a hydraulic lift, which takes about two hours to lift one floor level.

Subway franchise owner Richard Schragger also has to manage special waste procedures for the facility. A compost handles solid waste and a machine boils away liquid waste. The location of the Subway sandwich shops save workers’ time while they work on World Trade Center One.
