Westmont Police Officer Rescues Man; Firefighters Rescue Woman from Retention Pond Near Richmond & 63rd

LeRoy Hurlbert, 67, and his wife Pearla, 70, were were rescued Monday night after their car ended up in a retention pond near 63rd and Richmond in Westmont. A Westmont female police officer rescued LeRoy Hurlbert about 15 feet from shore. Fire department rescue divers found Pearla unconscious in the water shortly after the first rescue. A Westmont Ladder Tower Truck extended its ladder over the water to assist divers with rescue operations.


Both victims were transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Both victims were alive when they were rescued from the retention pond. LeRoy Hurlbert was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning. Pearla was listed in critical condition.
