Illinois State health officials reported that the number of rabid bats found in Illinois this year is the highest ever: 99, which is almost twice the total number of rabid animals reported.
All animals considered that tested positive for rabies were bats.
There are no reported cases of humans being infected so far this year.
Quite a few bats have been reported in basements this year, many in August (see this report).
