The Cary Fire Protection District requested mutual aid from area fire departments for an extra-alarm fire to the second level just before 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Several tractors were reported burning and firefighters were working to protect two building exposures. The Box Alarm called for tanker trucks to get water to the seat of the fire at Lowe Enterprises, 3412 Northwest Highway in unincorporated McHenry County near Cary. Water from fire hydrants was relayed to tanker trucks which were used to fill portable water tanks that were setup closer to the fire. Firefighter were able to hold the fire from destroying two buildings that were exposed to the heat and flames from the garbage pile and brush fire. The major part of the fire was knocked down within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported, but neighbors in the area were disturbed by smoke and odor.
