Final Signoff for Analog TV, ABC Gets an Extra Digital UHF Channel (44)

Video from ABC7 Chicago regarding all television stations phasing out of analog television starting this past Friday. ABC7 Chicago turned off their analog signal with the press of a button at Willis Tower on Friday October 30, 2009.

ABC7 is now broadcasting on UHF channel 44 with a digital translator on VHF channel 7. Viewers may now be able to receive a stronger signal over the air may after they rescan their Digital TV’s or DTV converter boxes.

This also means that some viewers, after they rescan their Digital TV’s or DTV converter boxes, may be able to receive ABC7’s three digital channels (7.1, 7.2, and 7.3) twice. If this happens to you, you can simply choose to ignore the duplicate channels, or you can use the signal strength feature of your Digital TV or DTV converter box to see if reception of one set of channels is stronger than the other. If one set of channels (7.1, 7.2, and 7.3) is clearly stronger or more stable, you can follow your Digital TV or DTV converter box guide to delete the weaker channels from your digital receiver’s memory.
