September 15, 2009 UPDATE … Charge upgraded to murder.

Dylan Kibayasi, the 5-month-old son of Ibrahim Kibayasi, died shortly after noon Wednesday after he was brought to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Friday and held in the intensive care unit.

Ibrahim Kibayasi, 29, of the 1700 block of Sable Lane in Mount Prospect was charged with aggravated battery of a child, a Class X felony after his son was brought to Level One Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital by Prospect Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics.

According to a news release from the Mount Prospect Police Department, The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services notified Mount Prospect Police Department Friday that the child was brought to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by fire department paramedics “for injuries consistent with physical abuse associated with shaken baby syndrome.”

Kibayasi’s bond was set at $2 million. Charges against the father are likely to be upgraded if a Mount Prospect Police Department death investigation and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office post mortem examination produces further evidence against Ibrahim Kibayasi.

The 5-month-old infant had remained in critical condition with apparent Shaken Baby Syndrome since Friday. The child’s mother was not charged with a crime.
