Crash Into a Subway Sandwich Shop in West Dundee

Eight patients are injured in West Dundee at a Subway sandwich shop at 400 South 8th Street in West Dundee [MAP/SAT] just before 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Four patients have been transported in serious condition and four more patients are expected to be transported. A Flight for Life helicopter landing zone has been set up nearby.

Extrication procedures were required for this rescue. West Dundee Fire Protection District was assisted by fire departments from Barrington, Bartlett, Elgin, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Pingree Grove, South Elgin, Streamwood and more.

The scene required extra care to make sure all victims were found. Illinois Route 31, which is 8th Street in downtown West Dundee was closed for a period of time Saturday afternoon.

UPDATE: John R. Venezia, 56, a Certified Public Accountant, also known by friends and family as Jack Venezia, died of head and leg injuries when he was struck by an Acura MDX that crashed through a front window and completely entered the Subway sandwich shop where he was seated for lunch.
