St. Patrick’s Day 2007 — A strange sight near University Boulevard and State Road 417 in Orange County. A “Deputy Leprechaun” held a sign that read, “Watch your speed or it will cost you your pot of gold.” Then he would pull out a laser speed-detection gun, detect about one violator per minute and radio a speed and vehicle description to officers staged out of sight. The waiting officers would then pull over speeders and any drivers that were reported to be reckless or not wearing their seatbelts.
