‘Drunk’ Boyfriend Kills Cat in Apartment on Goebbert Rd

Kevin Colabuono was sentenced Monday December 14, 2009 to 30 months of probation and ordered to perform 240 hours of community-service work.

Kevin Colabuono 25, was charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, a felony, on Sunday. Arlington Heights police received a report about 1:00 p.m. Sunday that a woman’s boyfriend killed her cat by shaking it to death. The crime allegedly occurred in an apartment in the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road. The boyfriend was reported to be ‘drunk’ at the time of the crime.

The animal that died was a four-month old kitten named Riley.

Arlington Heights police officers, an animal warden, and an evidence technician were on the scene between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. One male suspect placed in custody and transported to the Arlington Heights Police Department jail.

Illinois is among the top five states for strong anti-cruelty laws with California, Maine, Michigan, and Oregon.
