Schaumburg Car Explosion Kills One at 21 Kristin Place Apartments

Schaumburg Fire Department received multiple calls for an automobile explosion and fire about 9 p.m. Thursday night in a parking garage at 21 Kristin Drive [MAP/SAT].

The car fire was knocked down quickly, and residents in a portion of the apartment building were evacuated.  The car was parked on the southwest corner of the second floor level of a two-story parking garage behind the 12-story apartment building known as Twenty-One Kristin Place.

Residents were evacuated and the Cook County bomb squad was also called to the scene, since the cause of the explosion was not known.

Besides the one fatality, no other injuries were reported and no other cars were damaged. Schaumburg Police Department is conducting a death investigation.
