A Rolling Meadows Police Officer on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 about 9:48 p.m., was in a fully marked police vehicle, stopped at a red light facing south on Rohlwing Road at Euclid Avenue. The officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Euclid Avenue approaching Rohlwing Road. The vehicle’s headlights were off, in violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
The officer made a U-turn and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle based on that violation, as the driver traveled northbound on Rohlwing Road from Euclid Avenue. The vehicle had traveled north of Stonegate Boulevard (a distance of approximately 1/10 of a mile) by the time the officer executed the U-turn to attempt the stop. The officer was unable to close distance on the vehicle, which continued northbound on Rohlwing Road and then eastbound on Industrial Avenue. Upon losing sight of the vehicle, the officer ceased attempts to make the traffic stop and turned off the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights.
The officer subsequently heard a loud noise and searched the area to determine the source of the noise. The area into which the vehicle fled is a secluded, industrial area. The subject vehicle was found crashed and partially submerged in a stormwater detention area adjacent to 3650 Industrial Avenue. Rescue personnel responded to the scene and removed the driver from the vehicle. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash victim was a male, age 18, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office. The victim’s hometown was not initially available from the Cook County Medical Examiers Office
