According to the Schaumburg Police Department, workers who were cleaning the pond at Algonquin Road and Parkside Drive reported to police that an object which resembled a human body was observed floating in the water.

Schaumburg police and fire personnel located the body and recovered the body, described as an unidentified deceased adult male floating in the pond.

Detectives are currently conducting a death investigation and have notified the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. According to the Schaumburg Police Department, no further description (except male/unknown race, possibly middle aged with a dark colored hooded coat) was available initially.

The pond is located just south of Algonquin Road between Progress Parkway and Parkside Drive, just west of Plum Grove Road/Meacham Road, and about 1500 feet north-northeast of Top Golf in Schaumburg.

Village of Schaumburg/X

The Village of Schaumburg notified the public regarding the police activity, lane closures, and investigation at the pond over five hours after police and firefighters responded to the scene.

Public safety transparency in the Village of Schaumburg has declined since police, fire and EMS communications have been encrypted, and no alternative methods of real-time situational awareness has been established in the Village of Schaumburg.

Compare Schaumuburg’s lack of public safety accountability to the City of Chicago where “Citywide” police emergency frequencies are available in real-time online via official city radio feeds on Broadcastify.com, and fire department radio frequencies are available in real-time over the air carrying Chicago Fire Department’s radio communications and via official feeds on Broadcastify.com (see all feeds available on Broadcastify for Chicago Metro area).

No public safety communications transparency is available for the Village of Schaumburg.

Brian Townsend runs a municipality that is a “news desert” regarding Public Safety Transparency. Police department radios have been encrypted since June 2013, and fire department radios have been encrypted since October 2025 with no significant PIO/News Media Partnership, and no alternative methods to keep people informed regularly about public safety issues. Leadership is missing from the village manager, police chief and fire chief with no significant remedies to inform people how to reduce risks and reinforce good decisions to live safely, while the Village of Schaumburg and Northwest Central Dispatch System gather volumes and volumes of data on how crashes, fires, crimes, and other public safety incidents occur.

The Village Manager is responsible for all operations and services provided by the Village of Schaumburg.
