UPDATE: Two police officers were shot. One died shortly after he was shot. Suspect is in custody.
Police and firefighter/paramedics from Chicago responded about 10:45 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026 to a report of an acitive shooter and multiple gunshot victims at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital, 5145 North California Avenue in Chicago.
There are possibly police officers wounded. The hospital is on emergency bypass for ambulances, and the hospital is on lockdown.
An EMS Plan 1 was activated for multiple ambulances at about 10:55 a.m.
The precise location of the shooting on the property was unknown initially. The shooter may have fled the scene, so the incident may no longer be an Active Shooter. At about 11:00 a.m. fire communications indicated two police officers were critically injured.
There was at least one CFD ambulance paramedic crew already inside the hospital when the shooting incident began.
Two patients were transported Code Red for trauma to a Level 1 Trauma Center. Both victims are believed to be police officers with critical injuries. The first police officer was transported out of Swedish Hospital by 11:35 a.m. The second police officer was transported out of Swedish by about 11:40 a.m.
CFD fire command reported at about 11:55 a.m. that there were no additional gunshot victims above the two counted Chicago Police officers transported as trauma victims to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Chicago.
