Police, firefighters and paramedics from Chicago responded about 5:08 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026 to a report of a shooting in the block of 7700 South Racine Avenue in Chicago.
A 19-year-old male victim was inside a residence when an unknown occupant inside a vehicle produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Area Detectives 6th District are investigating.
A witness in the neighborhood reported that there might have been a teen party at the location, and that several people ran out of the building after loud shots were heard.
The scene is located just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Park, 1200 West 77th Street in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The neighborhood is primarily residential with apartments, single-family homes and a few corner businesses. The apartment building where the crime scene was located is obscured on Google Map Street View images.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office the victim was identified as Michael Rounds Jr, age 19.
