Police, firefighters and paramedics from Arlington Heights responded just after 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026 to a report of smoke in the building at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Makerplace, 112 North Belmont Avenue in Arlington Heights, according to tip reported to CARDINAL NEWS.

Firefighters investigated a report of smoke, but didn’t detect any smoke when they investigated the interior of the building. Firefighters were also assigned to the roof to inspect rooftop units.

Just after 1:30 p.m. maintenance and firefighters discovered that an HVAC Rooftop Unit (RTU) had a burnt out motor.
