The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group (SIG), a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA)-funded task force, in collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) – Chicago Field Division, concluded a joint investigation that resulted in the arrest of a man for selling cocaine and firearms in Lake and Cook Counties.

In late 2025, SIG detectives and ATF agents launched an investigation into Andres Cardenas Guerrero, 26, of the 10400 block of Betty Court, Rosemont, due to his suspected involvement in selling firearms and cocaine in Cook and Lake Counties.

During the investigation, Cardenas Guerrero sold firearms and cocaine to undercover SIG detectives on several occasions in Cook and Lake Counties.

In early January 2026, SIG detectives presented the facts and circumstances of the case to the Illinois Attorney General, as the guns and firearm transactions occurred in two separate counties. On January 9, 2026, a Statewide Grand Jury indicted Cardenas Guerrero on multiple charges and an arrest warrant was issued.

On January 15, 2026, SIG detectives had information Cardenas Guerrero would be in the Deerfield area, and with the Deerfield Police Department, he was taken into custody in the 0-100 block of Waukegan Road, Deerfield.

Cardenas Guerrero remains held in the Lake County Jail on the following charges:

Armed Violence (Class X Felony)

Four Counts of Unlawful Delivery of Cocaine (Class 1 Felonies)

Three Counts of Unlawful Delivery of a Firearm (Class 4 Felonies)

Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “The success of this investigation underscores the important role our Special Investigations Group plays in targeting serious criminal activity. Being a HIDTA funded task force, and working alongside our partners at the ATF, SIG detectives were able to take another dangerous offender off the street and again disrupt the illegal trafficking of firearms and narcotics into Lake County.”

“ATF’s partnership with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Special Investigations Group is producing real results. Violent offenders trafficking firearms and narcotics have no place in our communities, and I am proud of our joint efforts to ensure Lake County remains a safe place for all.” – ATF Chicago Field Division Special Agent in Charge Christopher Amon

A detention hearing is scheduled for this afternoon.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
