Manhole Fire Spreads to Two Cars @CitizenApp

29 Arden St 12/18/25 3:11:50 AM EST

FDNY firefighters and NYPD police officers responded about 3:11 a.m. EST, Thursday, December 18, 2025 to a 9-1-1 report of a manhole fire apparently involving an underground electric vault at 29 Arden Street west of Bronx in New York City. Firefighters reported flames were spreading to a vehicle by about 3:52 a.m. Firefighters appeared to be careful not to apply water directly on the manhole. A Citizen user video captured a vehicle erupting in flames possibly caused by a manhole fire nearby.

The utility company was notified, and power was partially lost in the neighborhood, according to the Citizen narrative with the video.

Firefighters reported at 3:53 a.m. that two vehicles were now involved in the fire, and additional fire crews were requested. Firefighters and police officers worked to move a vehicle that was parked over the manhole, according to the Citizen report.

Firefighters checked nearby residences for CO levels, and reported no carbon monoxide detected in nearby properties.

Unfortunately, there is a slight risk to vehicles parked near underground vaults, near above-ground transformers, and underneath overhead power lines and overhead transformers.
