Identity Released of Deceased in Apparent Murder-Suicide Case in North Chicago Near Naval Station Great Lakes

The Lake County Coroners Office released the identity of two deceased individual with gunshot wounds, apparently the result of a murder-suicide incident on Friday night, October 10, 2025 near Naval Station Great Lakes.

Police officers from North Chicago Police Department, firefighters and paramedics from Naval Station Great Lakes Fire Department, and investigators from NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) responded about 8:08 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 to a report of a shooting in the block of 2300 California Avenue in North Chicago. First responders arrived and located two individuals, a 39-year-old man, and a 36-year-old woman — both with apparent gunshot wounds. The two reportedly resided at the residence where the incident occurred. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.




The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.

The deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Olivia Lacey, and 39-year-old John Taylor, both of North Chicago. On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, autopsies were conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that both died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Early in the investigation, detectives believed the shooting was an isolated incident with evidence indicating that the man shot the woman and then shot himself. The incident remains under investigation by the North Chicago Police Department.
