A 53-year-old McHenry man has died following a single-vehicle electric scooter crash that occurred Saturday morning, May 24, 2025 in the block of 5000 Wildwood Drive, located in a residential neighborhood near Port Barrington in unincorporated McHenry County.
The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Bruce Neiswanger, of McHenry. Preliminary coroner’s investigation indicate that Mr. Neiswanger died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash.
Emergency personnel from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Island Lake Police Department, and Wauconda Fire District responded about at 10:03 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025 to the scene of a crash involving a rider who was unresponsive after crashing a Segway eKick Scooter ZT3 Pro in the block of 5000 Wildwood Drive.
Upon arrival, police, firefighters, and paramedics, discovered an unconscious and unresponsive male adult who had crashed while driving the electric scooter. First responders found the operator of the scooter unconscious with bystanders performing CPR. The victim was treated and transported by paramedics to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Preliminary findings indicate that Bruce Neiswanger was on the scooter, and was traveling southbound on Wildwood Drive. For unknown reason(s) still under investigation, he was ejected from the electric scooter and landed in the roadway. Neiswanger was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and was the sole occupant of the scooter.
The crash is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit in coordination with the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
