Buffalo Grove police responded about 12:14 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025 to a report of an armed robbery that was later clarified as a “man with a gun” call on Johnson Drive at the Chevy Chase Apartments in Buffalo Grove.
Buffalo Grove police officers on arrival were met by a witness who told police officers they heard a gunshot, and were then approached by a man with a shotgun. The witness also provided a description of the male adult, who reportedly demanded entry into the building.
A spent shotgun shell was found outside the apartment building, according to the Buffalo Grove Police Department.
Smith allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody nearby. Buffalo Grove police searched the area and identified the suspect as Kevin R. Smith, 61, a resident of the building. Police also recovered the shot gun that was allegedly used by Kevin Smith.
Smith was also in possession of several weapons and ammunition.

reckless discharge of a firearm.
