
An absconder released on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) has a history of four sentences involving two custody dates in the IDOC, and who has been at large since Thursday, February 15, 2024, is now wanted for the investigation of a homicide in Aurora, Illinois.
The Aurora Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating homicide suspect Jose Barragan, wanted for the shooting death of an 82-year-old Aurora man on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. A warrant was issued on January 7th, but despite an extensive search, he remains at large.
Aurora Police officers responded about 6:52 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2025, to a ShotSpotter alert in the block of 0-49 North Anderson Street in Aurora. Upon arrival, officers discovered Fidel Macias-Hernandez inside his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics provided emergency medical care and transported Macias-Hernandez to a local hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Macias-Hernandez was walking in his kitchen when a gunman fired multiple rounds into the residence from outside. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Detectives from the Aurora Police Department’s Investigations Bureau, along with Evidence Technicians, responded to the scene to process evidence and interview witnesses. Through the course of their investigation, investigators identified Barragan as the suspect.
Jose Barragan is wanted on the following charges, as authorized by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office …
• First Degree Murder (Two counts – upgraded from Attempted Murder) – Class M Felony
• Aggravated Battery Discharge of a Firearm – Class X Felony
• Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm – Class X Felony
• Armed Violence (Two counts) – Class X Felony
The investigation remains active, and authorities continue working to locate Barragan, a 26-year-old from the block of 50-100 North Anderson Street in Aurora, IL.
Jose Barragan is described as 5’04’ 130 LBS, with black hair, brown eyes, and multiple tattoos on his chest, fingers, and left/right forearm.
