Illinois State Police and firefighters and paramedics from Schaumburg responded about 4:24 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 to a serious rollover crash with entrapment and fire at Illinois Tollway Plaza 10 near Barrington Road, Hoffman Estates.
An Illinois State Police trooper discovered a burning car that was involved in crash into the “cash box” at the Tollway Plaza at the exit ramp from I-90 WEST to Barrington Road. Initially, the trooper could not determine whether there was anyone in the vehicle because of intense heat and flames. There was concern that the driver may have been ejected during the crash.
Schaumburg firefighters discovered a male driver in the car about 4:42 a.m. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Illinois State Police are investigating while the burnt vehicle remained at the scene upside down past 8:00 a.m.
Traffic delays were minor on I-90 WEST about 7:00 a.m.
