Firefighters and paramedics from Newport Fire Protection District responded about 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 to report of an injured person on a roof at Route 173 and Route 41 in Wadsworth.

A construction worker was down on a rooftop — ill or injured.

Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue Department Truck 32 crew from Wisconsin was assigned to respond to the scene with their tower ladder truck for mutual aid assistance for a rooftop rescue. Firefighters transferred the injured or ill construction worker from the rooftop to a Stokes basket, which is a durable stretcher designed to secure a patient that is being transferred from a potentially hazardous location — usuall with unsure footing. The Stokes basket was then placed on the ladder truck’s elevated platform basket, and the aerial tower platform was lowered to the ground.

The patient was then transported by a Newport Fire paramedic crew to Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
