An armed robbery suspect, Antwoin Mason, was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Robbery and one count of Identity Theft within three hours of an armed robbery that occurred just before 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Dunkin’ at 2106 South Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Under the guidelines of the SAFE-T Act (Pre-trial Fairness Act), Antwoin Mason was released following a detention hearing Thursday morning at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
Antwoin Mason was unable to take money from the cash registers at Dunkin’. Antwoin Mason is accused of implying he had a firearm as he demanded personal items from a store employee and customer inside the Dunkin’ establishment, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department. Two witnesses reported earlier that more than one customer was a victim of the crime. The personal items taken included cellphones and wallets, including a credit card. Allegedly, the credit card was used fraudulently by Antwoin Mason during the less-than three-hour elapsed time between the robbery and his arrest soon after the robbery.
Items from the robbery were recovered when Mason was apprehended and arrested at 7:07 p.m. at the Suburban Studios motel, 2120 South Arlington Heights Road. Suburban Studios is located two commercial lots south of the Dunkin’ donut and coffee shop. Both businesses are on the west side of Arlington Heights Road. Antwoin Mason was a registered guest at Suburban Studios.
There have been numerous police calls and paramedics calls at Suburban Studios before and since it was remodeled with a name change from a former Comfort Inn. The update to the facility does not seem to have reduced the number of police and EMS incidents located at the motel.
Arlington Heights police responded about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday January 2, 2024 to a report of an armed robbery at Dunkin’ (donuts and coffee shop) 2106 South Arlington Heights Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report of one offender committing an armed robbery at the Dunkin’ Donuts.
Two witness accounts indicated that customers and employees were victims of a forcible takeover by a male offender who took their wallets and cellphones. Initially, the count for the total number of victims was unavailable.
Also, it was initially unknown if a weapon was displayed or implied.
The offender was described as a male/black. Initially, this was the only physical description information available.
No injuries were reported.
This initial public safety report was released by CARDINAL NEWS before an official information release was available from police authorities.
The crime is reported to have occurred about 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The Dunkin’ donuts and coffee shop with a drive-thru is located just north of Wingate by Wyndham Arlington Heights, Suburban Studios Arlington Heights – Elk Grove, and Red Roof Inn.
