Identity Released for Wheeling Man Killed in Crash at Route 60 and Bacon Rd in Round Lake

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Round Lake responded about 8:14 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2024 to a report of a head-on crash on Route 60 near Bacon Road in Round Lake. Police officers on arrival discovered a three-vehicle crash with two occupants entrapped in two of the vehicles. One of the drivers unresponsive and not breathing.

All three drivers were transported to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. One of the drivers, a 47-year-old man from Wheeling, was pronounced deceased in the emergency room at Advocate Condell Medical Center. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified.




The deceased driver was identified as 47-year-old Wojciech Jaworski, of Wheeling. On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Mr. Jaworski died from blunt force injuries suffered as a result of the crash.

Based on the seriousness of the crash, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County was requested to conduct the on-scene crash investigation. The crash remains under investigation by the Round Lake Police Department and MCAT.

The right lane of eastbound Route 60 ends where a Speed Limit 55 MPH sign was posted according to Google Street View images captured August 2019.

The right lane ends and the Speed Limit sign is posted just before a right hand turn for eastbound Route 60.




An initial investigation indicates that the driver of a Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on Route 60 where the roadway merges from two lanes to one lane. The right lane ends in the area. Allegedly, the driver of the Dodge Durango was passing near the merging traffic lanes and crossed into oncoming westbound traffic and crashed with a Toyota Camry that was heading westbound on Route 60. Another collision occurred next, involving the Dodge Durango and a Volkswagen Jetta.

Jaworski Wojciech was driving the Toyota, which sustained severe front, driver’s side damage in the head-on crash.

Initially, information regarding charges or citations, or pending charges was not available.
