McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force, SWAT Team, Crystal Lake Police Department, and McHenry Police Department on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, arrested two McHenry residents on drug and weapons charges after executing a search warrant on their home in the block of 5000 Home Avenue in McHenry.
Two subjects were taken into custody for various charges outlined below …
Jimmy Diaz; age 59 of McHenry
2 counts of felon possession or use weapon/firearm/ammo – Class 2
1 count of possession of methamphetamine – less than 5 grams – Class 3
1 count of possession controlled substance – Class 4
1 count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia – Class A
1 count of resist or obstruct police officer – Class A
Rene R. Barrera Junior; age 37 of McHenry

1 count of possession of methamphetamine – less than 5 grams – Class 3
1 count of possession controlled substance – Class 4
1 count of obstructing justice – tamper with evidence/false information – Class 4
1 count of possession of firearm – no valid FOID card – Class A
1 count of possession of ammunition – no valid FOID card – Class A
1 count of resist or obstruct police officer – Class A
The charges against these individuals are merely allegations against them. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office alerted citizens about 10:46 a.m. today that there was “Heavy Police Activity” near the intersection of Home Avenue and Highview Avenue in McHenry. MCSO advised there was no public safety threat, but that citizen should avoid the area.
