The Lake County Coroner’s Office officially announced at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 that on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, just before 12:30 p.m., divers involved in the second day of the search for missing 17-year-old Brissa Romero located and recovered a body — matching Brissa Romero’s description — from a retention pond near Executive Way and Lakeview Parkway in Vernon Hills. Her vehicle had been located the day prior in the same pond.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.
The deceased has been positively identified as 17-year-old Brissa Romero, of Carpentersville. On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, an autopsy was conducted at the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that there were no significant injuries and that Brissa Romero’s death is consistent with drowning.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Vernon Hills Police Department, the Carpentersville Police Department, the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
