Lake County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigators opened an investigation Monday after an early morning traffic crash that occurred in unincorporated Round Lake on Fairfield Road north of Nippersink Road.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 6:30 a.m. November 20, 2023 to a report of a crash with injuries on Fairfield Road in the area of Nippersink Road. When deputies arrived, they located two vehicles with heavy damage on Fairfield Road north of Nippersink Road.
One of the crash victim was entrapped in a vehicle for a prolonged period, and was extricated about 7:17 a.m.
Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with critical injuries. The children were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, but those injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Preliminary investigation shows a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by an adult woman (unknown age at the time of the media release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office) of Round Lake Beach, was traveling northbound on Fairfield Road. After crossing Nippersink Road, for an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet veered into the southbound lanes of traffic. The Chevrolet struck a southbound Acura MDX, driven by a 39-year-old woman of Wauconda, head-on. Two middle-school-aged children passengers were in the Acura MDX.
An open container of alcohol was located in the Chevrolet, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
