A Palatine Police Officer on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at approximately 9:02 p.m. while patrolling the area of North Rand Road near Williams Drive, attempted to stop the driver of vehicle observed traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound North Rand Road in Palatine. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled into a nearby parking lot located in the 1300 block of Geneva Drive in Palatine. While driving recklessly through the parking lot, the suspect vehicle struck multiple unoccupied parked vehicles, leaving the suspect’s vehicle inoperable. The driver, Carlos Miranda Pina, 24, of the 1300 block of North Geneva Drive in Palatine then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, Pina was apprehended by Palatine police officers on scene, and was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun at the time of arrest.

Multiple business and petty offense traffic violations, including operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
On Monday, November 20, 2023, Pina was transported to the Cook County 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows for a detention hearing. His next court date is scheduled for December 5, 2023 at 10:30am, in Room 108 in Rolling Meadows. His custody information status was not available.
