Police from Arlington Heights responded at an undisclosed precise time on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 to an incident that involved a foot pursuit and possibly the stashing of a handgun by a suspect in the neighborhood in a perimeter described approximately as Central Road, Arlington Heights Road, White Oak Street, and Ridge Avenue in Arlington Heights.

According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, one suspect was in custody after a brief foot pursuit, but police believe the suspect may have been armed with a handgun during the pursuit. When the suspect was located and taken into custody, he did not possess a weapon. According to the police department, after an exhaustive search, the handgun was not located in the neighborhood. Police officers have continued to search for the handgun, and patrol the area into Tuesday evening.

Arlington Heights police officers are attempting to rule out whether the suspect hid a gun or other items in the neighborhood. The suspect may have been criminally active and/or captured in the block of 1200 South Highland Avenue or Chestnut Avenue.

The Arlington Heights Police Department did not disclose the reason that the suspect was wanted for investigation, but asked residents in the neighborhood that if they locate a handgun or anything else, discarded or hidden on their property, to not touch any item(s) and call 911 immediately so that the police department can respond and collect any found item or items.

Residents in the neighborhood of the incident were notified by Everbridge, a notification system that Northwest Central Dispatch System (9-1-1 center) uses that requires residents to subscribe for notifications. Initially, it is unknown whether the Village of Arlington Heights also used reverse 911, which does not require residents to subscribe, to notify neighbors of the police activity today.

Police have gathered additional information about the case, and there may be additional persons of interest, but preferred not to release any additional information early Tuesday evening.
