Police, firefighters and paramedics from Palatine responded about 10:04 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023 to a report of a shooting in the block of 1800 North Green Lane North in Palatine.
Police immediately secured the scene enough for paramedics to make contact with two shooting victims at the scene. CPR was already being administered to one of the victims before paramedics arrived, but there was a large crowd with some people trying to access the victims where the victims were down in the parking lot. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead about 12:54 a.m. Saturday.
Both of the victims that were killed were 16 year-old males who lived in Palatine, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office.
An unconfirmed report indicates that a third victim was shot in the arm. The victim was either shot by a stray bullet while inside an apartment, or moved inside to an apartment after being shot outside near the location where the other two victims were shot and killed. Authorities have not confirmed that there was a third shooting victim.
Palatine Police Department in a press release overnight did not indicate that any victims had died, but confirmed that two there were two shooting victims in the block of 1800 Green Lane North. Police disclosed that they located two victims with life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds within the 1800 block and the 1900 block.
Two witnesses that heard the shots fired, but did not see the shootings, heard rapid gunfire. One of the witnesses said he heard about 10 gunshots.
Palatine Police Department alerted area police officers that the occupant or occupants of a black Mercedes were wanted for investigation of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Police indicated that an occupant or occupants of a black Mercedes with tinted windows fire shots from the vehicle. The report indicated that the black Mercedes was last scene northbound on Baldwin Road.
The neighborhood in Palatine has been affected by shootings for several years with some conflicts and possible retaliations occurring between the neighborhood in Palatine and neighborhoods in Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights.
A 15 year-old shooting victim, who was a resident of Mount Prospect, according to the Cook County Medical Examiners Office, died Tuesday, August 22, 2023 after he was shot on August 17, 2023, directly across Baldwin Road. The August shooting occurred on Clear Creek Bay, which is almost aligned with Green Lane North, but is a dead end street that doesn’t connect to Baldwin Road and is in a neighborhood separated by a wrought iron fence.
Police officers from several law enforcement agencies, including Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Harper College, Mount Prospect, Wheeling and others were assigned to the scene. Probably over 30 police SUVs were on the scene, most parked along Baldwin Road. The large police presence was possibly due to the large crowd that was on the scene initially.
